My journey through nutrition and sport

I first learnt about the performance enhancing power of nutrition during my teens when rowing for Headington School Oxford, and then going on to represent England. My body's demand for fuel during this period was relentless, and nutrition counseling sparked off my interest in pursuing a career in dietetics.

My NHS career has given me a wide range of experience including leading cardiac rehab and diabetes dietary sessions, gastro-intestinal and weight-reducing clinics, and in-patient specialist work ranging from renal to intensive care and oncology.

During this time my appetite for sport has continued in the form of marathons, duathalons, and dance, and my interest in sports nutrition intensified. Seeing clients battle with 'making weight' in lightweight rowing as well as extreme diet habits of power lifting has made me realize the need for sensible sports nutritional advice with the perspective gained from a clinical background.

Having gained a masters level sports nutritional qualification I have used this to advise clients on a variety of sporting challenges from preparing for their first triathlon to climbing K2. I set up my own private nutrition clinics in Hamilton, NZ, and counseled sports scholars at the University of Waikato on performance enhancing nutrition. Since 2012 I have been working with Loughborough College delivering the nutrition component of their AASE program for England Volleyball, England Netball and UK Athletics junior athletes.
